ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition is open to talented young singers who are currently in their sophomore, junior or senior year in high school. As part of its mission, the Schmidt Foundation  encourages youth in the arts and provides support and inspiration to our next generation of artists. The Schmidt competition, now in its thirtieth year, has impacted the lives of over 5,000 youth throughout the country and annually provides scholarships for over 120 students. Our competitors have gone on to gain entrance into the world’s finest music schools and include winners of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the George London Competition, the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Competition and the National Opera Association Award.
